Transportation

For every $1 invested in transit, New York receives $5 of economic activity. Right now, subways face delays more than 40% of the time. As your Assemblymember, Grace will advocate for increased capital funding to repair our crumbling infrastructure.

The State Senate and State Assembly should each get one appointment to the MTA’s board. Full transparency will help root out corruption and spending inefficiencies that have weighed down the transit system for decades.

When more than 90% of our community take public transportation or bike to work, we need to do everything in our power to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality. Grace is in favor of congestion pricing as a mechanism to fund transportation improvements and promote carpooling, only if there are carveouts for residents of Lower Manhattan.

With over 6 million trips taken per year and 145,000 registered riders, Access-a-Ride (AAR) is a vital service for New York’s mobility-impaired and senior population. Currently, riders wait almost 2 hours on average per ride. Two hours is unacceptable. As your Assemblymember, Grace will work with the MTA to increase the efficiency and enrollment of AAR to ensure that our great city is accessible to all.

The Lower East Side is historically underserved by the subway system, and transit times for residents have become unbearable. New York State must increase bus service throughout Chinatown and the Lower East Side. Currently, the M14 bus service has been reduced, which has fallen on our community the hardest.
Gridlock plagues Chinatown, FiDi, and the Lower East Side thanks to our three bridges and two major parkways. As your Assemblymember, Grace will help fund a study alongside the NYC Department of Transportation to find solutions to alleviate congestion downtown.

Right now, Albany controls New York City’s speed limits and speed cameras. By returning home rule to New York City, we will be able to ensure safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers by reducing speed limits and enforcing traffic laws on our own terms.

Many subway stops in our district do not have access to elevators that would take wheelchair-bound riders to the subway platform. As your Assemblymember, Grace will fight for increased funding to install elevators to high-traffic subway stops in our district. She will work vigorously alongside other state and federal legislators to ensure that Lower Manhattan receives its fair share of infrastructure spending.
