Education

Year after year, New York has underinvested in our children’s education, which was laid bare during this pandemic. While our public school teachers rose to the occasion and are among the best in the world, they were left short of the resources they needed - and the disparities reflect deeper inequity. The quality of a child’s education shouldn’t be determined by ZIP code or how much money their parents have. Every single student in New York deserves a high-quality, fully funded, and holistic education. New York must increase funding for its public schools. Grace will fight for funding for smaller class sizes and also work to increase teacher pay so that we can close the pandemic’s learning gap and provide the equal opportunity that our civil rights leaders have fought centuries for.

Quality education goes beyond technology and supplies. New York City’s communities are the most diverse in the world and our schools need to be equipped to serve students who learn differently by accommodating learning disabilities and children who speak English as a second language.

Grace will always push to improve our public education systems and increase funding for education, which is a pathway to upward mobility in New York City. This includes everything from universal childcare to the New Deal for CUNY, which will save the university from further state budget cuts, reverse decades of underfunding, and protect the quality of education.

Grace is proudly endorsed by DC37, New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), and United Federation of Teachers (UFT).
