Families

As a mother with three young children in school, Grace fully understands that it's not just about the classroom - it's about being there for your children. For working parents, a lot of the time that means having to get help from outside the family. Childcare costs are rising by more than $1,600 per year in New York City. Rising costs threaten the financial stability of working-class families, and as your Assemblymember Grace will champion legislation to provide universal child care for all families, regardless of immigration status.

By tracking child literacy as early as possible, we can set our children up for future success – even if children are learning English as a second language. By increasing funding for schools to hire more reading and literacy counselors, we can intervene before third grade and provide the support needed for future success.

The first weeks of a newborn’s life are crucial for families. Grace strongly supports strengthening the New York Paid Family Leave program (NYPFL), already the strongest family leave policy in the country.

In New York City, there is a growing racial gap in maternal healthcare, where women of color are five times more likely than white women to die due to severe complications during childbirth. Grace will support programs to address training and education in hospitals to combat racial bias in healthcare decisions, expand access to community healthcare workers, and increase support for midwife programs across the five boroughs.

Grace is proudly endorsed by New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), United Federation of Teachers (UFT), 1199 SEIU, and the New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA).
